OnePlus 5 Open Beta could be coming soon

The OnePlus 5 has been on the market for nearly four months and has been selling quite well. One of the perks for getting a OnePlus device is how close its software is to stock Android. That means OnePlus devices usually receive software updates rather quickly, especially for users enrolled in the OxygenOS Open Beta. The OnePlus 5 has been missing from the Open Beta, but that could change.

Earlier today, OnePlus posted about their OxygenOS Open Beta on their social media accounts. What makes this interesting is they used an image of the OnePlus 5 in the image with flashing instructions. This was later followed by a tweet from OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei quoting a tweet referring to when the 5 will receive the Open Beta. Carl stated that it will be “soon” when the 5 will receive the OxygenOS Open Beta.

Although it is not a formal announcement, it does bode well for OnePlus 5 users who are waiting for the beta. It is unknown what “soon” means to Carl Pei, but it is definitely something to note. Especially with the timing of the social media post by OnePlus. It would be safe to assume that the first Open Beta for the OP5 will be an update to Android Oreo. The OnePlus 3/3T received the Open Beta update to Android Oreo yesterday, so it is likely.
