OnePlus 5 finally gets Android Oreo through OxygenOS beta

0

The OnePlus 5 has finally received its first Android Oreo build through the OxygenOS beta program. Nearly two months after the 3 and 3T got Android Oreo, the 5 finally gets to join the party. OnePlus hasn’t listed any bugs with the first build, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. The full changelog can be seen below.

  • System
    • Updated to Android O (8.0)
      • Added Picture in Picture
      • Added Auto-fill
      • Added Smart text selection
      • New Quick Settings design
    • Added Parallel Apps
    • Updated security patch to October
  • Launcher
    • Added notification dots
    • New app folder design
    • Now able to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus

The new update will be only available via flashing. Since it is the first Open Beta for the OnePlus 5, OTAs will not be available. Once you are enrolled in the beta program, you will receive future updates over-the-air. If you would like to enroll in the OxygenOS Open Beta program, you can do so by downloading the update here. Flashing instructions for the update can be found here.

Along with the update, OnePlus has also opened a form for feedback on the update to Oreo. The survey is meant for only the UI/UX portion of the update. If you would like to fill out that form, it can be found here. For general feedback on performance and bugs, you can always go to https://forums.oneplus.net/feedback/.

What’s interesting about this beta is that it is only for the OnePlus 5 and not the OnePlus 5T. It is unknown if OnePlus will do unified build with the 5/5T as they did with the 3/3T. Are you going to install the new OxygenOS Android Oreo beta on your OnePlus 5? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.
