Android L was officially unveiled back in June at the Google I/O, but something was missing. While Google debuted their new version of the Android OS, they did not unveil an official name. We all know that Google names their OS versions after desserts, previous iterations have been KitKat, Jelly Bear, Ice Cream Sandwich, etc. With the name debut expected, we are left with a few different options.
The most prevalent name expected for Android L has been Lollipop. This has been the front-runner since ‘L’ was debuted, although other names such as Lemon Meringue Pie, and Lion have also popped up. Lion is the most unlikely choice, whereas LMP is very possible due to Google not going with a different pie variant for the ‘K’ iteration (Key Lime Pie).
Now, we have a new take that ‘L’ may stand for Licorice. Giovanni Calabrese is the head of the sculpting firm that has designed previous Android sculptures had posted on his Google+ account stating “I never had a great liking for Licorice, but damn! There are some great flavors out there!”
He also wrote that while boarding a plane to fly to Google HQ, TSA asked him why he had so many boxes of licorice in his bag. His reply was that he likes to hand them out at the boarding gate.
Either Google and Calabrese are collaborating on one of the biggest bluffs in Android history because people read into and overt-think everything, or he is legitimately dropping hints on the next official name of Android L.
