Latest on the Nexus 6

We are almost exactly a month away from Google’s highly-anticipated announcement and release of their stock Android driven Nexus 6, and we are greeted with some new renders. This image, courtesy of Android Police shows off what looks to be the new Nexus device and also some interesting renders of the new application icons.

The render, which can be seen below, matches up with the device that was leaked prior in our earlier post, you can see that here. The device is indeed a bigger version of the Moto X (2014) that comes with a 5.9 inch QHD display (1440 x 2560 with 496 ppi), front facing speakers, a 3200+ mAh battery, a 13 megapixel camera in the rear with optical image stabilization, and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. On the internals, the device will also sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 CPU and 3 GB of RAM.

What can be seen on this new mock-up of Android L is the new application icons. These have not been seen in the developer preview as of now, but this is what Google is heading to. Overall there is a continued push towards the flatter design.

We can see an all new phone-dialer icon and what seems to be a new messaging app. Google might be going back to two separate options for messaging, rather than just Hangouts. There is also a revamped icon of the Google Play Store that is much flatter than its predecessor. The new camera icon comes with a new ‘lens’. It seems Google has merged the ‘Photos’ app into the icon of the actual camera.

The Nexus 6 is expected to be debuted this October, most likely the 31st on Halloween.
