HTC U11 Plus with 18:9 display coming this November

HTC just sold off a chunk of it’s smartphone team to Google, but that doesn’t mean that HTC is done making phones. A new report suggests that the Taiwanese company is working on the HTC U11 Plus, which is codenamed Ocean Master. The device will fall more in line with what we’ve seen in devices this year.

The report, comes from Frandroid and states that HTC has a device called Ocean Master coming later this year, perhaps November. The device is expected to feature a 5.99 inch QHD edge-to-edge bezel-less display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, similar to the upcoming Pixel 2 XL and LG V30. The device also will come with IP68 water and dust resistance and retain HTC’s Edge Sense.

The HTC U11 was a very popular device, but some would say it had a design that was remnant of 2016. The device had standard bezels, but had top of the line specifications. The U11 Plus is expected to remedy that. One would wonder if they would place the fingerprint sensor on the back of the device if it continues the bezel-less trend.

Among other things, the device will feature the Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB of on-board storage. To top that off, it will feature HTC’s highly ranked 12 megapixel camera on the back with an 8 megapixel camera flanking the front. The article doesn’t say anything about the default assistant, but I wonder if it will default back to Google Assistant with the recent deal with Google.

What are your thoughts on the HTC U11 Plus? It might be my next phone, depending on the price and how it is in comparison to the Pixel 2 XL.
