Galaxy S7 renders leak out, show familiar design with some tweaks

It is never too early to start talking about a phone that is coming out in 2016, especially when leaks are already coming out. It has been long rumored that the Galaxy S7 will be released earlier than usual, so the fact we are already getting leaked renders only reaffirms that rumor. GSM Arena got their hands on some exclusive Galaxy S7 renders and they definitely show off a familiar face, only refined and tweaked a little.

Once again rumors are pointing towards two S7 models, one identical to the Galaxy S6 and one much, much larger. The former is expected come in at dimensions of 143.37 x 70.8 x 6.94 mm whereas the Galaxy S7 Plus is expected to be much larger at 163.32 x 82.01 x 7.82 mm. Compare that to the Galaxy Note 5 dimensions which are 153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm, so it is definitely quite large, but thinner nonetheless. Inside that massive chassis is expected to be a 6 inch display.

Galaxy S7 back

Some interesting design changes to note are that the fingerprint sensor/home button has changed shape. Samsung has always employed a rounded rectangle, but this time around it seems it will lose the curves. The SIM card slot also has been relocated a little further down the right side. The front-facing camera also has been slightly moved, but that could be just the render.

Overall, the device’s shape seems to take on more of an iPhone 4s/6s design than before. The edges on the Galaxy S7 are now fully rounded, whereas on the S6 they were slightly flat. The back glass as well seems to have the 2.5D arc versus being flat on the previous model.

The Galaxy S7 will ship with either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or the Exynos 8890 dependent on wireless carriers. It is expected to debut ahead of MWC sometime in February of 2016. Now that the Galaxy S7 has leaked, what are your thoughts on it? Is Samsung copying Apple or are they just getting with the times? Let us know!
