Galaxy S7 will pack a larger battery, microSD card slot, water resistance

When the Galaxy S6 first started to leak, the design changed was welcomed, but it came at a cost. Every Samsung flagship since the Note 4 has been without the prime features that differentiated Samsung devices from the others: large removalable batteries, microSD card, and in the case of the S5, water resistance. This was to much criticism from long-time Samsung fans, including myself. A new leak courtesy of VentureBeat claims that Samsung is bringing back the majority of those features in the Galaxy S7.

The source who spoke on anonymity claims that Samsung is bringing back IP67 water resistance to the S lineup, which would be a huge selling point. I know that many of my friends picked up the S5 just for that feature alone. On top of that, both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will feature a microSD card slot and support storage of up to 200 GB. That was another feature that had gone by the wayside in favor of a thinner, sleeker design.

If the news of water resistance and expandable storage wasn’t enough good news for you, there’s more. Another aspect of the newer Samsung phones lost out on was battery size. The Galaxy S6 had a 2,500 mAh battery whereas the Galaxy S6 edge had a slightly larger 2,550 mAh battery. Now, VentureBeat‘s source is claiming that the Galaxy S7 will have a 3,000 mAh battery and the Galaxy S7 edge will come with a massive 3,600 mAh battery. To me, this is where the rumor gets a little sketchy. It wouldn’t surprise me if Samsung increased the battery size, but to that extent.

To round out the rest of the news, the S7 duo will come with 12.2 megapixel cameras, something we saw in our rumor the other day. It is could to see rumors that aren’t conflicting, makes it more probable. Since the there won’t be as many megapixels in the devices, that means there might not be a camera hump, especially if they pack the devices with larger batteries. The cameras are also expected to have an ƒ/1.7 aperture, compared to the ƒ/1.9 found on the Galaxy S6/S6 edge.
