Just this past February, the very first Ubuntu phone hit the market thanks to flash sales. The BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition was the world’s first smartphone to feature the Ubuntu operating system. Today, its successor was announced which is the Aquaris E5 HD.

The Aquaris E5 HD, which comes four months after the original Ubuntu phone, is collaborated on by BQ and Canonical once again. It will be the first Ubuntu phone to feature an HD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels versus 540 x 960 of the previous device. The design will stay much of the same, but the internals will all be updated.bqaquarise5hdubuntu3

Inside the Aquaris E5 HD will be a MediaTek Quad Core Cortex A7 processor clocked at 1.3 GHz backed by 1 GB of RAM. Storage has been boosted from 8 GB to 16 GB this time around with no word on if it supports microSD card expansion. The cameras will also receive a boost as the front-facing camera will be 5 megapixel shooter with the rear being a 13 megapixel shooter. On top of it, it will have a dual-SIM setup with one capable of 4G.

Just as before, the device will only be available in the European Union and will run €199.90 or $222 USD. The device will be slated for a mid-June release via flash sales, just as before.
