With more and more smartphone usage comes the need for either larger batteries or the need to be tied down to a charger. It seems lately companies are leaning more towards being tied down to a charger, and that’s because of Qualcomm. Awhile ago, Qualcomm debuted Quick Charge 1.0, which charged a phone up to 40% faster than normal. This led to Quick Charge 2.0, which charged a phone 75% quicker.

Building upon fast charging speeds, Qualcomm has just announced its Quick Charge 3.0, the fastest and most efficient charging technology on the market so far. Not only is it a faster charging system, but it is also more versatile than before as well. It can be paired with any Quick Charge 1.0 or 2.0 charger and work with USB Type A, USB Type C, microUSB, and other proprietary connectors.

Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 won’t be seen on the market until the beginning of 2016, where it is expected to debut with the Snapdragon 820 processor. Qualcomm’s latest processors, the 430, 617, 618, and 620 will also support Quick Charge 3.0.
