Moto X (1st gen) and Moto X (2nd gen) now receiving Android 5.1 OTA

0

It has been quite awhile since Android 5.1 was released, but Motorola’s update seemed to be missing. The good news is that the unlocked Moto X (1st gen) and Moto X (2nd gen) for AT&T and T-Mobile are all receiving the Android 5.1 update. The 5.1 update brings many subtle changes, mostly performance based and under the hood enhancements. More important, it finally brings Lollipop to the Moto X (1st gen).

If you need a refresher of what Android 5.1 will specifically bring:

  • Expanded Wi-Fi and Bluetooth quick settings toggles
  • Ability to swipe up heads-up notifications
  • Device Protection
  • Optimizations to the ART runtime

It is good to see Motorola keep pace with Google on its timely updates. The Moto X device is Motorola’s flagship, so its no surprise to see them receiving the latest Android update. For those of you wondering, Android 5.1 doesn’t fix the memory leak completely, but that comes in Android 5.1.1.

They haven’t released any information for the unlocked Moto X (2nd gen) just yet, but it will most likely be coming within the next day or so. Have you received the update on your Moto X yet? Be sure to let us know!
