It has definitely been a long time coming, but the Moto 360 is now officially receiving the Android 5.1.1 update. According to a post from Wayne Piekarski, an Android Wear Developer, the OTA has started and will continue to hit devices throughout the end of the week. If you don’t get it right away, be patient it will hit your device soon.
Motorola is usually fast at updating their devices to the latest version of Android, but the DROID Turbo has been held back from the latest version of Android alongside the Moto 360. The Moto 360 was having issues running Android 5.1.1 due to the Texas Instruments processor not being powerful enough, but they have optimized the software specifically for the device.
One of the biggest additions to Android 5.1.1 is the ability to have your watch connected to WiFi. This allows the ability to be connected without a phone and still receive notifications and such. It also brings with it always-on apps, emoji input, media browser, etc. If you would like to view the full addition list, you can view the Android Developer’s blog.
