Design

The BLUBOO Xtouch has a very unique design for a device that is under $200. It features CNC metal frame with 5.5 mm edges, which contends it with the thinnest phones. Flanking the metal frame on the front is 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protecting the 5 inch display. A good comparison to the BLUBOO Xtouch would be the new OnePlus X, which features similar build, but at a higher price.

On the front of the Xtouch is a fingerprint sensor at the bottom, similar to that of the OnePlus 2. It is comparable in speed, which unlocks the device .3 seconds. At a $179, including a fingerprint sensor into a device with a solid metal build is quite the feat. On the top of the device is the in-call speaker, notifcation light, and an 8 megapixel front-facing camera.

The back of the device is quite minimal, which is always appreciated. The back cover, which is removable, features a ‘3D Dazzle’ mirror finish, which changes appearance at different angles. The bottom of the cover features BLUBOO’s logo at the bottom and the Sony IMX214 13 megapixel rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture along with a dual-LED flash below it. I am a fan of a removal back and the fact that it features an anti-fingerprint nano coating. If there is one thing that annoys me it’s fingerprints, so good for BLUBOO.

The right side of the device houses the power button and volume rocker, with the former below the latter. The buttons appear to be tight to the chassis and continue on the premium build. The left of the device is bare aside from the fact that it houses  the dual-SIM slots and microSD card slot.

The top of the device houses a couple antennas to get through the metal frame along with a headphone jack. The bottom of the device has a microUSB port with speaker grills on either side.

Specifications

When you buy a phone for $179, you don’t expect top-notch specs, but BLUBOO begs to differ. Even at such a low price tag, the Xtouch features a MediaTek 64-bit MT6753 octa-core chipset clocked at 1.3 GHz, a Mali-T720 GPU, all backed by 3 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. It is honestly quite impressive that a device under $200 can feature an octa-core processor and 3 GB of RAM. The BLUBOO Xtouch also includes 32 GB of base storage. Considering devices at this price usually come with 16 GB of base storage, this is a steal.

Even though the device has a visual thickness of 5.5 mm, it still has a large 3,050 mAh backing up the hardware, which can definitely power you through the day. Sipping the battery is a 5 inch FHD IPS LCD display. All of this is running on Android 5.1 Lollipop with minimal changes, so it has a near stock Android experience.
