9.0 Excellent

This USB hub looks good and it performs just as well. The four USB 3.0 ports allow for data transfer at fast speeds and it is durable thanks to the aluminum build.

One of the most needed things around the office is a USB port. It is the jack of all trades: it can transfer data and charge devices. So, with the lack of USB ports around, we recently got our hands on a USB 4 port hub from the folks over at 1byone. It comes with four ports, all USB 3.0 enabled in a sleek and slim design.

There isn’t much to it in the way of size. First off, it comes in at 94 x 26.2 x 23.6 mm, so it is quite small. On top of the slimness of the hub, it only weighs 50 grams. All of that is packed  with an all aluminum build. It is very refreshing to see as most USB hubs are plastic. The one I had before was plastic and it felt very cheap. The hub does include an LED light as well, to signal that it is plugged in and receiving power.

One thing that a appreciate about the design the the location of the USB power cord. It comes out of the back of the hub, so it doesn’t get in the way of the other ports. other than that, there are two ports on either side, slightly staggered. That is how 1byone fits four ports into a small hub. Not only that, but it has legs so it stands up nicely and doesn’t want to tip over, even with multiple cords plugged into it. To compensate for the slipperiness though, it does come Velcro strips to attach the hub wherever you like, but it just isn’t as appealing to the eyes.

The only thing that I would like to see added would be rubber to the aforementioned legs. While it stands up nicely, it tends to slide across the table, especially if a heavier cord stresses it. It isn’t the end of the world, but it is something to note. Since the 1byone hub is USB 3.0 enabled, it can handle data transfers of up to 5 Gbps per second, which equates to just over 600 megabytes per second. It can definitely get the job done when it comes to transferring files. I had no problem at all transferring my music to a USB stick or my phone.

All in all, for $12.99 it is a great bargain. 1byone shows off their ability to pack quality into a budget USB hub. Not only that, but it packs four USB 3.0 ports into a frame that is only 94 mm long. If you are in search of a few extra USB ports, don’t hesitate to find the 1byone USB 3.0 4-port hub on Amazon.
